Campbellsville University Jazz Ensemble concert is Nov. 11, 2010

Campbellsville University's Jazz Ensemble will perform its home concert at 8pmET/7pmCT, Thursday, November 11, 2010, in The Gheens Recital Hall of the Gosser Fine Arts Center, 210 University DR, Campbellsville, KY. The concert is free and open to the public.



The concert follows its return from an annual fall recruiting tour.The Jazz Ensemble, which will be performing with the CU Chamber Percussion Ensemble, will be returning from a tour of high schools in KentucKY

Directed by Jen Tinnell, director of bands and instructor in music, the Jazz Ensemble plays a variety of styles including classic big band, shuffle, rock and cha-cha and will be presenting original charts as well as some well-known favorites by Tower of Power, The Rippingtons, Michael Buble and others.

"The Percussion Ensemble will be performing a couple of pieces including a steel pan combo as well as a novelty piece that will for sure tickle your funny bone," Tinnell said.

The Jazz and Chamber Percussion Ensembles leave Monday, November 8 for the groups' fall recruiting tour. They are scheduled to perform at seven different schools November 8 and 11, 2010.

High schools where the groups are performing include: Glasgow, Allen County/Scottsville, Bowling Green, Butler County, Ohio County, Central Hardin and Hart County.

"We all have a lot of fun preparing for this tour and playing for all the spirited high school students, but we always look forward to our home concert the most," Tinnell said.

"Coming back to CU and playing for our friends, families and the entire Campbellsville community is definitely the most exciting way to end our tour."

The program consists of selections from the following: "Bling," "Absolutely Awesome," "Big Noise from Winnetka," "Sway," "Just When I'm Thinkin' 'Bout You," "Buffalo Wings," "In A Mellow Tone," "Route 66," "You're Still A Young Man," "Orange Colored Sky" and "Weekend in Monaco."Jazz Ensemble personnel include:
  • Alto sax: Daniel Beams of Campbellsville and Aaron Hutchinson of Dry Ridge, KY

  • Tenor sax: Haley Probus of Lebanon, KY and Jordan Wilson of Lawrenceburg KY

  • Bari sax, Stacey Hurt of Cadiz, KY

  • Trumpet: Blake Herron of Campbellsville; Damon King of Bardstown, KY; Timothy Howe of Dry Ridge and Bradley Whitehead of Russell Springs, KY

  • Trombone: J.D. Ragland and Lucas Taylor, both of Munfordville, KY; Jeremy Bell of Harlan, KY; and Tyler Bland of Campbellsville

  • Guitar: Tomohiro Suko of Tokyo, Japan

  • Bass: Jeremy Emerson of Russell Springs, KY

  • Piano: Kinly Bertram of Monticello, KY

  • Percussion:Nathan Wilkerson of Munfordville and Garrett Baker of Bowling Green, KY

  • Vocalist: Rebecca Oliver of Scottsville, KY
