Good News from Jackie Wheeler: The wildcat baby made it. Jacqueline Wheeler sent an update on story with the photo in the Monday, October 11, 2010, issue of the Daily News at ColumbiaMagazine.com.She wrote: "Just thought you'd like to see this picture I took this morning, October 11, 2010, on the Ozark Mountain High Road near Branson, Missouri," writes Jackie Wheeler, who now lives in Branson West, MO, but is and always will be an Adair County, Kentuckian. "It's a Momma wildcat. She and her baby were crossing the road and her baby didn't make it. She was trying to get her baby off the road. She wouldn't leave her, so I went back and took a picture and moved her baby off the road closer to its mother; hopefully she made it."This morning, she clarified the story, along with the Good News answer to the question many readers slept with overnight, Did the baby make it?: Yes. Actually my "Better Half" picked the baby up and moved it to the edge of the road while I watched Momma. As we left, we saw her grab her baby and take it off the road. Our hope is that there will be a followup to the wonderful wildlife story. Maybe Jackie and her better half will see the Momma wildcat and her baby again. Maybe they will recognize each other. Maybe there was a bond established with the human heroism which will be repaid with a gentle show of gratitude from this fierce predator. -EW This story was posted on 2010-10-12 09:00:20
