CU soccer women posts 3rd straight shut out over Pikeville Women's Soccer: Campbellsville 6, Pikeville 0. Freshman goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman led Campbellsville to its seventh shutout of the season with five saves. Megan Campbell has first hat trick By Chris Megginson News from Campbellsville Athletics Campbellsville, KY - For the third consecutive game, Megan Campbell found the net for the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers. This time, she led CU to a 6-0 shutout of Pikeville College for her first collegiate hat trick. After scoring three goals in the Lady Tigers' previous two games combined, Campbell continued her offensive streak by assisting Cassie Yannelli on CU's first goal, less than a minute into the game. Campbell, a junior from Central City, Ky., gave Campbellsville a 2-0 halftime lead with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Bailey McDonough. "Megan has stepped it up. She was getting frustrated early in the season, because she wasn't getting goals. We told her to be patient and they'd come, and they did. She is playing awesome. She's letting it come to her, which has been the big difference," CU head coach Thom Jones said. Coming out of halftime, Campbell extended the lead with a goal from the left side of the net in the 57th minute. Audra Hockenberger netted the other goal from the field in the 64th minute, while CU scored its fourth and sixth goals on penalty kicks. Rebekah Carl converted a PK past Pikeville goalkeeper Bethany Howell in the 55th minute, and Campbell pushed the second PK past Howell in the 77th minute to seal her hat trick. She now has six goals and two assists in the past three games for the Lady Tigers and five of CU's last eight goals in Mid-South Conference play. CU had two other close scoring moments in the game, as Carl had a goal disallowed after being called offsides, and Yannelli had one tap off the post in the second half. "They put 11 in front of the goal, so it made it difficult to connect on shots early. We knew that if we stayed patient and stuck to our plan, that they'd wear down. We stuck to our plan for 90 minutes today," Jones said. "As long as we keep improving, come tournament time, we'll be in good shape." Freshman goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman led Campbellsville to its seventh shutout of the season with five saves. The shutout builds on the program's record for most shutouts in a season, brokern earlier in the year. CU Lady Tigers Soccer vs. WVU Tech Campbellsville (8-5, 3-2 MSC) has now shutout Pikeville (3-8-1, 1-4 MSC) four of the last five years.
