PRIDE also provided local governments with trash bags, vests and gloves to pass along to volunteers. "Roadside PRIDE is a great way to serve your community while soaking in our gorgeous fall scenery," said Karen Kelly, PRIDE Director. "If you volunteer, you will enjoy the great outdoors, and you will make sure that everyone sees colorful trees, not paper bags and plastic bottles, during their scenic drives through our region." "If you like to win trophies, Roadside PRIDE includes a friendly competition among the region's cities and counties," Kelly added. "If you put together a strong team of volunteers, then your county or city can bring home a Roadside PRIDE trophy." In October, cities and counties will earn points for the number of volunteers who clean roadsides, the number of road miles cleaned and the amount of trash collected. Trophies will be awarded to the cities and counties with the highest scores. Each county and city will compete against counties and cities with similar populations. A list of competitors is available at www.kypride.org. Local PRIDE Coordinators will pass out cleanup supplies to volunteers, dispose of the trash collected and track the local Roadside PRIDE score. Cindy LackeySpecific details of PRIDE Campaigns in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor County will be posted as received from coordinators.
