Obituary: Ruth Newby Reed, 93, formerly of Cumberland Co., KY

Funeral service will be in LaRue Co., KY; burial in Cumberland Co., KY. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Bakerton, KY. She was former missionary and a former Sunday School Teacher. She was the widow of the late Rev Ralph W. Reed.

Ruth Newby Reed, age 93 of Hodgenville, KY formerly of Burkesville, KY. passed away on Sunday, October 03, 2010 at her home.

The funeral service will be Friday, October 08, 2010 at 11amET, at First Baptist Church, 730 Tonieville RD, Hodgenville, KY. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. Visitation from 6pm-8pmET Thursday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home, 208 West Water ST, Hodgenville, KY.



She was a homemaker, a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Bakerton, KY, a former missionary for the Liberty District and a former Sunday school teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ralph W. Reed, in 2002 and her parents, Curtis and Golda Newby Sprouls and two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include the following:
  • One daughter: Anna L. Marks and her husband Michael of Florida

  • Four grandchildren: LeeRoy Marks and Manuel Marks both of Florida, Michael Marks II of Colorado and Emmanuella Broadhurst of Florida

  • One brother in law: Ralph Allen

  • Two special nieces: Diana Moore and Sue Bradshaw

  • Nine great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews
