News from Lindsey Wilson College

Columbia, Ky - Lindsey Wilson will host five Saturday-morning visitation days during this school year to introduce the college to prospective students and their families. The first open house will be held from 9am-12pm noon CT on Saturday, October 9, 2010. The other four LWC open house days will be: November 20, 2010 and January 29, March 26 and April 30, 2010. The March 26 open house will be a talent showcase day. Each tour will start on the Lindsey Wilson Campus in the Roberta Cranmer Dining Center, 430 Helen Flatt DR, Columbia, KY.

In an age when students can take virtual tours of a college campus, watch live webcasts of professors' lectures or join college-sponsored chat rooms, they should not overlook the importance of the personal visit.

That's the message from Lindsey Wilson College Director of Admissions Charity Ferguson to prospective college students and their family members.

"There are so many ways to learn about a college," Ferguson said. "The Internet especially has opened channels that didn't exist even 10 years ago. From chat rooms to social networking sites such as Facebook, students can learn a lot about a college.

"But the one thing they can't learn from the Internet is what it's like to actually be on a campus and interact with a college's faculty, staff and current students. That's why it's so critical to make a campus visit. An open house is a great way to begin that process."

"One of the nice things about attending an open house at Lindsey Wilson is that the campus is relaxed," Ferguson said. "Because classes are not held on Saturday, it's a very casual day. So everyone at the college who helps out at an open house focuses on one thing -- our prospective students and their family members."

During an open house, prospective students tour LWC's A.P. White Campus, meet with the college's faculty and staff, investigate academic programs, and learn about student-life programs.

Ferguson said that an open house will help prospective students and their family members learn how they can afford a college education.

"So many people are surprised when they discover how affordable a Lindsey Wilson education is," Ferguson said. "Lindsey Wilson has a very aggressive financial aid program that makes a college education very affordable."

Students who attend an open house can also meet with LWC athletic coaches and advisers to student organizations.

"We want students to meet with professors because they are at the center of what we do," Ferguson said. "But we also want prospective students and their family members to learn about the many extracurricular and co-curricular organizations. It's important to be involved with something when you are in college -- whether it's a sports team, club or student organization."

And Ferguson noted that it's never too early to begin the college-search process.

"In addition to high school seniors, high school juniors and sophomores should also consider attending an open house," she said. "Beginning the college-search process early makes the senior year of high school a little less stressful for students and their families."

Lindsey Wilson College open house days are open to high school students and their families. A complimentary lunch will be served in the college's award-winning Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.
