CU piano professor Dr. Bill Budai receives faculty award 'He makes piano almost fun, which is very hard to do.' - DR. FRANK CHEATHAM, quoting student. McKinney News from Campbellsville University Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Bill Budai, assistant professor of piano at Campbellsville University, received the Non-Tenured Faculty Award at the first chapel of the semester. Budai, who has served at CU two years, was presented the award for his outstanding loyalty and commitment to Campbellsville University, according to Dr. Frank Cheatham, vice president for academic affairs. Cheatham said students have described him as an awesome teacher and a great professor who knows what he's doing and it shows. Cheatham said one student remarked, "He makes piano almost fun, which is very hard to do."Dr. Budai and his wife, Marilee, are volunteer music ministers in Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Lebanon, Ky. They have a daughter, Annalynn Budai. He is the son of Diane Budai of Gladwin, Mich., and the late James Budai. Other biographical, curriculum vitae background material, follows: Budai came to Campbellsville University from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education (keyboard) from Central Michigan University in 1992; a Master of Music in Piano Performance/Pedagogy from Bowling Green State University in 1995, and his Ph.D. in Music Education/Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma in 2005. At Campbellsville University, he teaches both undergraduate and graduate piano and piano pedagogy classes as well as music literature. Budai spent his summer working on general education reform at CU. He has designed a "trial audition experience" for prospective students, which brought about 20 students to campus last fall. He also was a member of a recruitment trip to Korea and Taiwan, and he presented workshops for undergraduate and graduate students there while also introducing those prospective students to Campbellsville University. Budai has given numerous presentations and has been involved in several professional organizations including the College Music Society's National Conference, the Kentucky Music Teachers Association State Conference, the Indiana Music Teachers Association State Conference and the Metropolitan Detroit Musicians League.
