Balltrip's parents, Ewell and Kathy Balltrip, live in Somerset, KY. She is a winner of the 2008 Alltech Opera Scholarship Competition. The award provided her with a full assistantship as a master's student of vocal performance at the University of Kentucky.

Balltrip was also recognized with the Encouragement Award in 2006 and 2007 at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Kentucky District), and was a Kentucky District winner in 2008.

Balltrip's operatic roles have included Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus), Musetta (La Boheme), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Frasquita (Carmen), Dorothee (Cendrillion), First witch (Dido and Aeneas), Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), and Papagena (The Magic Flute).

Internationally, Balltrip has performed in Montreal, Canada with the International Vocal Arts Institute; in Dublin, Ireland, as an Alltech Scholar; and in April 2009 she performed a concert of contemporary electro-acoustical music for the new music festival Tiempo Real Encuentros Sonoros in Bogota, Colombia.

Gaining a flare for contemporary music, Balltrip was also invited to perform in the 2009 SEAMUS Music Conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and, in 2007, she was hand-selected by composer Thomas Pasatieri to play Tallulah, the leading lady in his new comic opera, The Hotel Casablanca. Amanda will once again collaborate with Mr. Pasatieri this December to make the world premier of his new Christmas opera, God Bless Us Everyone.

While earning her Bachelor's of Music degree from the University of Kentucky, Balltrip said she has been greatly inspired under the tutelage of Gail Robinson and is currently finishing her studies as a master's student with Dr. Angelique Clay.

The "Encore Series" at First Presbyterian Church, 200 North Vine ST, Somerset, KY, will continue with a performance by Organist Dr. Wesley Roberts, who is Professor of Music at Campbellsville University, on Sunday, December 17, 2010, beginning at 5pmET/4pmCT.
