Downtown Days/Festival of Old West 2010: Cowboys will ride again They were absent last year, but for 2010, the Green River Cowboys are back! Concerts are almost nonstop this year, with plenty of Country, Southern Rock, Country, Gospel, and Country Music. Festival food aficionados will appreciate the return of the Burkesville ST food court and a new treat, a Country Ham breakfast on the Square, Saturday morning. It's just days away now, on starting at 5pmCT, Friday, October 8, 2010, followed by a full day of festivities on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Full events Calendar will be posted, later Click to revisit the 2009 Festival Album and Click to revisit the Great 2008 Bank Robbery Re-enactment Album By Ed Waggener The events for Downtown Days/Festival of the Old West, are now pretty much settled, and the big questions is answered: Yes, the Green River Cowboys and their re-enactment of the Bank of Columbia robbery will be back. The event, always a highlight of Festival, will occur at 12pm noon CT on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Last year, because of issues between the festival sponsors and the Cowboys, the re-enactment was conspicuously absent. Music and food will play a big role in the event, which kicks off on Friday, October 8, 2010, at 4pmCT, when vendor booths open. The food court will be set up, again, on Burkesville ST. And this year, according to Barbara Armitage, President, the Garden Club will have some treats people will be talking about all year: Cinnamon Rolls to Die For. Concerts will include:
A Corn Toss Tournament, with a top prize of $100, will be held, (will post location of venue when received), open to the first 20 teams, with an entry fee of $20 per team. On Saturday morning, the traditional 5K Run will get underway at the Chamber Building, 201 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY, with late registration starting at 7amCT. The run starts at 8amCT. A special Sunshine of Faith Country Ham Breakfast will be held on the Public Square starting at 8amCT, Saturday morning, October 9, 2010. The breakfast is a benefit for Sarah Irvin Gardner. A ping pong tournament starts at 1pmCT, Saturday. (venue will be announced when received). At 1:30pmCT, Damon's Cheerleading, Tumbling and Dance Academy performs on the Square, followed by Tumble Town at 3pmCT. The event is always a big day for reunion of friendships, and this year, with the election, an abundance of candidates will be on the scene. This story was posted on 2010-09-21 07:32:43
