The events for Downtown Days/Festival of the Old West, are now pretty much settled, and the big questions is answered: Yes, the Green River Cowboys and their re-enactment of the Bank of Columbia robbery will be back.

The event, always a highlight of Festival, will occur at 12pm noon CT on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Last year, because of issues between the festival sponsors and the Cowboys, the re-enactment was conspicuously absent.

Music and food will play a big role in the event, which kicks off on Friday, October 8, 2010, at 4pmCT, when vendor booths open.

The food court will be set up, again, on Burkesville ST.

And this year, according to Barbara Armitage, President, the Garden Club will have some treats people will be talking about all year: Cinnamon Rolls to Die For.

Concerts will include:
  • The Legacy Band. On The Main Stage in front of the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. from 5-7pmCT, Friday, October, 8, 2010 .
  • In the Middle of Nowhere, a local Band, on The Main Stage, following at 7:15pmCT.
And there's more music on Saturday, October 9, 2010
  • The Buddy Willingham (George Jones Music), on the Main Stage at 12:30pmCT.
  • Columbia's own Chasity Cowan will be back from Nashville with great Country Music on The Main Stage at 1:30pmCT.
  • Chris Taylor, Columbia, will present Contemporary Christian music on The Main Stage starting at 2:30pmCT
  • Another great local group, the Blakey Quartet, takes the Main Stagbe at 3:30pmCT.
  • The Big River Band, with Southern Rock, is on The Main Stage at 6pmCT.
  • And at 8pmCT, Sammy Kershaw, will give the musical finale with a Country Music on the Main Stage starting at 8pmCT. Remus Watson and Stateline Bluegrass Band will open for Sammy Kershaw.
As usual, there will be Kiddie Train Rides, starting at 5pmCT on Friday night.

A Corn Toss Tournament, with a top prize of $100, will be held, (will post location of venue when received), open to the first 20 teams, with an entry fee of $20 per team.

On Saturday morning, the traditional 5K Run will get underway at the Chamber Building, 201 Burkesville ST, Columbia, KY, with late registration starting at 7amCT. The run starts at 8amCT.

A special Sunshine of Faith Country Ham Breakfast will be held on the Public Square starting at 8amCT, Saturday morning, October 9, 2010. The breakfast is a benefit for Sarah Irvin Gardner.

A ping pong tournament starts at 1pmCT, Saturday. (venue will be announced when received).

At 1:30pmCT, Damon's Cheerleading, Tumbling and Dance Academy performs on the Square, followed by Tumble Town at 3pmCT.

The event is always a big day for reunion of friendships, and this year, with the election, an abundance of candidates will be on the scene.

Gunsmoke will fill the air again this year, as it did in 2008

2010-09-21 - Photo by Pen. 300 Quadrant, Southeast Corner of Public Square, Columbia, KY
Pen took this photograph at the 2008 Festival of the Old West and the following narrative accompanied it:
Smoke filled the air as the James Gang makes it's get-away. Gang members, from back to front, sort of, are: Gary Phillips, Campbellsville, KY; Randy Hatcher, Columbia, KY; Stephen Noel, Campbellsville, KY; Barry Jones, Columbia, KY; "Gizmo" Coomer, Columbia, KY; Jeff Hatcher, Columbia, KY; and Bo Horstman, Columbia, KY. This makes the 6th year the group has put this together. Stanley Lawson, owner of Gun Town Mountain, in Cave City, was the original creator of the event. He serves as narrator of the event While this originally started with a group from out of town doing the main part of the show it has evolved into a group of local ""cowboys" having a lot of fun entertaining the crowd. Thanks to Barry Jones for the description and background information
The longtime favorite of the festival returns to the Columbia Square again this year, at 12pm Noon CT, Saturday, October 9, 2010.
