Greg Dawkins sees movement on his effort to get a Portillos

Thinks with continued growth, and guidance, management of Portillo's can be enlightened and they will come to rational decision to locate here. (Maybe out by the Cabella's or the Bass Pro Shop which ought to locate on Burkesville RD? )
About: ME Lewis asks if we think too small about what we have to offer

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Wow! I think I've gotten something started here. I'm excited about the "buzz" of conversation that started merely about a good hot dog.

Several people have actually been fortunate enough to have the pleasure of tasting Portillo's food.

I totally agree with ME Lewis... never underestimate what can be done.

If you think small, you'll always be small. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy the small town closeness and feel that we share with the residents of Columbia.

However, If things were marketed better, we could make Columbia an even better place than anyone ever imagined!

I ask that everyone take a moment and visit portillos.com and watch the short video about how Mr. Dick Portillo started with not much more than a dream and turned it into something larger than life.

It just goes to show you that persistence pays off.

His determination and drive not only made him wealthy, but also gives back to the community with revenue and excellent food!!! Please take the time to e-mail Portillos, and let them know that his food is welcome in Columbia, KY.

We can't let Betty do all the work....{no offense Betty}.

Greg Dawkins

More evidence of Chicago competitiveness with Columbia

2010-09-15 - Photo by Pen. Chicago, Illinois
Here's just one more piece of evidence of how seriously Chicago, IL is trying to catch up with Columbia, and one more justification to not just get a Portillo's here, but to take one of theirs. This "Bean," structure is all too similar to one of the ideas Joe Moore and I have had for the Columbia, KY Square for years to be a mere coincidence. I had envisioned almost the same thing, on a more tasteful scale, in front of Murrell Burton's Real Estate office, and Joe Moore has often talked about the need for a canopy, with outdoor air conditioning, over the courthouse and central business section. Pen documented the Bean on a recent trip to Chicago, scoping out the progress Chicago is making trying to match food available in Columbia. But Satchell's moral was right, Columbians can't look back, Chicago may be catching up with us. They call this thing, "Cloud Gate." It's at the AT&T Plaza. Laying on Al Jolson's side, it is right cute, even if it is in arch rival territory. -EW
