Labor Day: BSST Day, Duck Race, Salvage concert - TODAY!

Vendor stalls open early this morning; Concert on the Square is at 3pmCT, with the band "Salvage." 4th Annual Wacky Quacky Duck Race is today! Ducks can be purchased on the Square today, in front of Grimsley's Jewelry, 100 Quadrant of the Square.

The focus of today's Labor Day Activities is Downtown Columbia, KY and the Banks of the Mighty Russell Creek. One of South Central Kentucky's oldest traditions, "Buy, Swap, Sell and Trade Day," regularly draws some of the Square's largest crowds. It's underway this morning.Exhibitors were setting up stalls on Sunday, September 5, 2010 and the stage area of the Adair Annex side of the square, the 400 Quadrant, was being roped off for a concert by the band "Salvage," at 3pmCT today. The Concert on the Square is jointly sponsored by Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, Ron Heath, President, and the Columbia Parks & Recreation Board, Charles Grimsley, chairman. -Sue Stivers, Executive Director, Columbia-Adair County Tourism Board



Brooke Harmon, Adair County High School FFA President, along with several other members of the FFA, will be making FFA Reflective Address Markers on site at the Community Yard Sale/Buy, Sell, Swap and Trade Day, on Labor Day, September 6, 2010, at the town square in Columbia, KY. Labor Day 2010: Sunrise on glorious BSST Day

At 6amCT this Labor Day morning, September 6, 2010 booths were already being readied for the big Buy, Sell, Swap, and Trade Day, one of Adair County's major homecoming events. Vendors are expected for all 33 booths. Greensburg Street, above is the only entrance to the Square blocked off today. The event will have four extra food vendors, in addition to Daniel's Mexican Restaurant and Moore's Pool Room. Booth numbers start at No. One on the Corner of Greensburg ST and Public Square, in the 100 Quadrant, circle the Square in Counterclockwise pattern through the 200 Quadrant, the 300, and the 400 Quadrant with completion of the loop on the Greensburg ST BSST cul-de-sac. Breakfast is ready now, at the Jones Chapel booths, No. 15 and 16, in the 300 section of the Square. In past years, the booth has sold out by noon, but Terry Partin of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church said they've prepared for much bigger crowds today.

Fumati Bianca: Symbolic White Smoke rises over Columbia

Ralph Willis, above, didn't have barbecue ready for breakfast, but the grill was hot and ready to go when the Bank of Columbia clock said 6:35amCT. Trade Day Street Food is always a favorite part of BSST.

BSST 2010: Wendell and Treva Sullivan, Greensburg, KY

Treva and Wendell Sullivan have big assortment of miscellaneous items for Buy, Sell, Swap & Trade Day. They drove over from Green County today. Many veterans and their families will recognized Wendell as the Air Drill Musician, who has performed at the Lindsey Wilson Veterans Day events and has been invited to attend this year.

Mark Twain Shriner Terry Moore drove his mini electric Studebaker on a run from the Shriners' booth on Greensburg ST to Sav-A-Lot on Burkesville ST.. The Shriners are raising money for Kosair Charities, and giving a free Fez with each $20 donation. Many of their other toys, similar to Terry Moore's ride, above, are on display. Adair County Fire Department dues can be paid in the same booth.

Food on Buy, Swap, Sell & Trade Day 2010 has a definite Gradyville taste. Just Food operators Jana, inside stand, and Michael Esch live in the western Adair County village. Jana is serving Marina Harmon, Columbia, KY, while Marina's friend, Kelly Hoover, also of Columbia, KY, left stands by. The Esches are offering elephant ears, sirloin tip pocket sandwiches, pulled chicken barbecue chicken sandwiches, frozen lemonade, bread sticks, loaded taters, sausage and gravy, hot coffee and other drinks and other items.

Mayfields Ice Cream

The stand is headquartered at Rerun's in the Village of Coburg, but today, with almost perfect ice cream-eating weather, they are a big part of the today's events.
