Corum scores Penalty kick to lift CU Lady Tigers soccer past Bryan Lions Ashley Corum, Radcliff, KY sophomore, nets CUs first goal of season for win By Chris Megginson Campbellsville University Sports Information Campbellsville University women's soccer recorded its first win of the season Friday, September 3, 2010, with a 1-0 victory over Bryan College in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Classic at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA. Campbellsville freshman goalkeeper Brandie Hagerman and Bryan freshman Stephanie Gagnon battled to a shutout for 74 1/2 minutes. But that ended when Gagnon was carded and ejected for tripping CU freshman Jessica Ralph (Owensboro, KY) during a one-on-one inside the box. The play set up a penalty kick for sophomore Ashley Corum (Radcliff, KY), who netted Campbellsville's first goal of the season with 15:30 left to play. Hagerman finished the game with six saves and her first collegiate shutout. Campbellsville switched its formation this week, moving from a 3-4-3 to a more defensive, yet balanced attacking 4-4-2. Despite having only two forwards, CU led in shots 14-11. "(The new formation) seemed to really work," CU head coach Thom Jones said. "We played really well. I thought we dominated the game, we just had a hard time finishing." Campbellsville University Women's Soccer (1-1) will look to defend its NCCAA Mid-East Region Classic title when it faces host Covenant College at 1:30pmET/12:30pmCT, Saturday, September 4, 2010. The game will be a rematch of last year's postseason NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament final, also played at Covenant College, 14049 Scenic Highway (School Address), Lookout Mountain, GA 30750, Lookout Mountain, Ga. Covenant won the 2009 postseason battle, 1-0. This story was posted on 2010-09-03 22:09:15
