Fry Ignites offense in No. 4 LWC Womens Soccers 3-0 Rout of SCAD By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson Athletics Columbia, KY - Elisha Fry scored just five goals last season, but offense wasnt hard to find for the junior midfielder in the 2010 home opener, striking a pair of goals to help the fourth ranked Lindsey Wilson College womens soccer team to a 3-0 rout of Savannah College of Art and Design on Thursday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. While Frys two goals put the game out of reach for the Bees, it was sophomore midfielder Mia Persson who sent in the winning goal early in the second half. Scoring her second goal in as many games, Persson found herself stuck nearly 30 yards away from the goal with no teammates in her sights. Without a solid pass available, the Sjobo, Sweden native fired a shot that sailed high in the air and into the back of the net, just above the hands of SCAD keeper Sara Collins in the 52nd minute. I turned around with the ball and saw no one to pass to, so I just tried to shoot it and got a lucky hit, Persson said. I just wanted to try to shoot and see what would happen and I got a good strike. I think before the goal we started to take care of the ball and play it around and started to get the game to where we wanted it. After seeing Perssons goal, Fry made it her objective to test the keeper on her next possession in striking distance and made the Bees pay with the Blue Raiders second goal in the 59th minute. At halftime we said look, we need to test the keeper and see what happens, so I just hit it and luckily it went in, Fry said. At first Frys shot looked to have little chance to make it past the keeper, but with more momentum than expected, the ball found the corner of the net, past the diving hands of Collins. Just three minutes later, freshman midfielder Elizabet Madjarac made a strong run into the box where she was fouled, setting up a penalty-kick opportunity for Lindsey Wilson. Looking to put the team up by three goals, assistant coach Debbie McGuinness let Fry take the successful kick. I was confident Id hit the target from 12 yards, Fry said, feeling good about her chances after gaining experience in penalty kicks during last seasons Mid-South Conference championship game against Georgetown (KY) College. Lindsey Wilson limited SCAD to just five shots -- all in the second half -- while the Blue Raiders sent 11 strikes towards the Bees goal. Collins finished with one save for SCAD, while junior Jordan Morrison scooped up three saves for the Blue Raiders.
