Campbellsville, KY - First-year football players at Campbellsville University helped close out a night of scrimmages at Finley Stadium Saturday. The "Group B" players went against each other in a two-hour scrimmage following a women's and men's soccer doubleheader.

"I think this sets the tone for the season," CU head coach Perry Thomas said. "It's the first time people in this town have seen a college football game under the lights, and it was good for these guys to get the chance to play in front of a crowd."

While the first and second string players watched from the sideline, the first-year players and a few third string guys got some solid reps on the new synthetic turf at Finley Stadium.

"I thought they competed well. The big thing is they had fun and got a chance to actually play as opposed to just being a scout team. We wanted them to get some extra reps, because they have to share so many reps usually," Thomas said. "I'm seeing improvements on the things we're teaching them, and that's huge, because these are the guys of the future. We've got some talented people. We have some kids that can play.
