Query. re: Bennett Cemetery, Gum Grove, Adair Co., KY Old Bennett family cemetery was located near Gum Grove School and holds remains of veteran of the Mexican War, Elisha Bennett, ancestor of all the Fairplay Bennetts About: Gum Grove was between Glens Fork and Fairplay KY By Chris Bennett I know where the Gum Grove School was, but I need help finding something else. I have been looking for an old family Cemetery that should be located near there for several years. According to records at the Adair County Library, it is listed as the Bennett Cemetery, near Gum Grove School. There are also other Public records that mention the cemetery. One tombstone was for Elisha Bennett, a Veteran of the Mexican war and a member of the 13th Kentucky Cavalry, and his wife Elizabeth Dooley Bennett. Possibly buried there is John Bennett and His Wife Mary Polly Young Bennett and some of their children. John was a veteran of the war of 1812, and moved here with his Father William Bennett from Maryland in the late 1700s. His brother Charles was once a business partner of Daniel Trabue. It is from these men, that all of the Fairplay Bennetts descended.I realize that the Cemetery was probably destroyed, but I would like to know where it was located. I can be reached at (270) 378-1036, or chrisbennett9828@gmail.comDestroying any grave yard which is listed in a Public Record is a crime in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Thanks! -Chris Bennett This story was posted on 2010-08-22 08:16:21
