LWC soccer men open 2010 season with exciting 1-0 win

Blue Raiders winning streak extended to 13 in a row

Columbia, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College community celebrated the opening of its first football season of 2010 on Saturday night.

After a 75-year hiatus, LWC will resume playing American football on September 4, 2010. But on Saturday night the LWC community celebrated the 21st consecutive season of European football, known in America as soccer.



Students painted their bodies and blew vuvuzelas to celebrate the LWC top-ranked men's soccer teams 2010 opening match against St. Xavier (IL) University on Saturday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. The Blue Raiders - who won the programs eighth NAIA national title last season - won the match, 1-0, extending their winning streak from last season to 13.

The Blue Raiders Men's Soccer team's next game at home at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway DR, Columbia, KY, is at 7:30pmCT on Friday, September 10, 2010, against Auburn (AL) University-Montgomery.

Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer coach Ray Wells, long a national legend in the game, watches his Blue Raiders during in the second half of Saturday night's match against St. Xavier (IL) University. The Blue Raiders won the match 1-0, giving Wells - who has been the only men's soccer coach in LWC history - an amazing overall record of 387-63-21.

Enthusiasm has been building for Adair County's most distinguished sports program over the years. Too slowly for dedicated fans, but more and more are enjoying the thrill of the world's most popular sport. Above, fans watch the game from outside the stadium, from an almost private, parklike setting at a sharp turn in Garry Coomer DR, Columbia, KY. At this stage of the game, fans were fairly confident, with Lindsey Wilson up, 1-nil, on Saturday, August 21, 2010, as the defending national champions were on their way to get another victory and the start of a perfect season.
