Letter: Traffic snarl after Joan Jett concert has Big Al fuming at Frankfort Tired and eager to get home to Adair County from Kentucky State Fair, Big Al was slowed by highway construction which slowed traffic on 1-65 to 3 mph. He thinks retribution in order. But Joan Jett put on a great show. To ColumbiaMagazine.com: My family and I went to the Kentucky State Fair to watch the fabulous Joan Jett tonight. She put on a fantastic show for everyone who attended and even gave a strong performance despite hurting herself in the process. Joan had to sit for a good portion of the show as she hurt her leg early in the performance. After the show was finished, and before the Sugarland show ended we made our way to I-65 south and headed towards Adair County. As we neared the Gene Snyder freeway, traffic was coming to a dead stop. We got stuck and could not make it to the Gene Snyder exit due to the heavy volume of traffic from the Fair. We sat for 1 1/2 hours while 4 lanes of traffic merged into 1 lane of traffic. We traveled 4 miles in 1 1/2 hours. I am very disappointed that the Kentucky DOT has the nerve to want people to attend the Fair and stimulate growth in our economy, and then screw them after the show was finished. Someone in Frankfort should be canned for this. This is a total disregard for the fine people of Kentucky. I understand the roads may need repairs, but do not stifle your own citizens at a major event by doing major road construction at a time after a major event with heavy volumes of traffic!! If I would have had our fine Governor's phone number, I would have called him. Please be wary if you go to the Fair that you may run into whatever idiot who plans major road construction to leave you sitting for hours after you are tired and ready to travel home. s/Big Al OwensColumbia, KY This story was posted on 2010-08-20 05:01:56
