Watershed to host open house in honor of Lucy B. Meece Watershed Arts Alliance open house at 501 Ogden ST, Somerset, KY. Sunday, August 15, at 3pmET/2pmCT. Art of Lucy Meece, music of John Polk will be featured Click on headline for story plus photo(s) By Dave Cazalet, Jr. Watershed Arts Alliance will host an open house in their new location at 501 Ogden St. in Somerset on Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 3pm to 4pmET. The open house will honor Lucy B. Meece, an artist originally from Somerset. Artwork by Meece will be on display. Meece has been painting in Mexico for a number of years and her work reflects the images, colors, and themes of our Central American neighbor to the south. Meece sometimes does multiply paintings of the same view, for example, a number of the works which will be on display focus on the architectural form of the arch. While the subject is the same, the color and shadows of each painting adds an interesting and fresh perspective to a familiar object. Watersheds new location is actually Meeces studio, which the local arts organization is renting. Refreshments will be served and music will be provided by John Polk. The music of John Polk has been influenced by folk singers like Woody Guthrie, Ramblin Jack Elliott and Mississippi John Hurt. Polk was born in Paducah, KY. He grew up in Lexington, KY, where he took up playing the banjo in high school. Polk came to Somerset initially to practice law with his fraternity brother, Walter McGuire. He now works for a title insurance company. Watershed Arts Alliance is a local arts organization which supports local performers and artists. The Watershed Gallery is located at 501 Ogden St. Watershed Arts Alliance is a not-for-profit local organization whose purpose is to promote the arts and local artists.
