ID appears complete on Cheryl Tarter Old Photo It's Antioch School, in the 1949-51 era, most believe About: 'Breeding' High School photo was really Antioch School, most agree. Alice Keen Curry, Ben Breeding, Billy England, Blackie Nixon, and Leslie Smith. Players and adults appear to be identified now. Click on headline to see accompaning photo By Ed Waggener The Favorite Old Photograph submitted by Cheryl Tarter with only 2 of the nine people identified now has names for all nine faces. The first identification came from Glenn Keen's daughter, who identified him as #3 in the photo.Gerald Doss wrote, "From the ages of those in the picture the picture must be older than 1955Plus, high school was consolidated in Adair county in 1953," planting the first doubts about CM's guess that the photo was of a Breeding High School team.Ben Breeding, one of the world's leading authorities on all things Breeding and Sparksville, wrote to clarify the school name. He said, "I believe this is a picture of the Sparksville Grade School team, rather than Breeding High School. Clovis Baker is seated on the left. This team was, I believe, county Champions." Billy England also identified Clovis Baker. He wrote, "First on the top row on the left Clovis Baker," and added to the doubt about it being a Breeding High School photo, asking, "Are you sure this is Breeding High school? The last year of Breeding was 1953. Could this be a picture of Antioch School?" Most agree it is. Blackie Nixon also identified Clovis Baker. He wrote, "Back row, 1st on left is Clovis Baker. This picture must be 1953, or before, as the last H.S. class at Breeding was 1952-53. I also thought that James Howard keltner was on the team, around that time, but cannot identify him." Blackie Nixon was still trying to unravel the mystery of the photo as one from Breeding High School, which, it now appears, tweren't. But Leslie Smith probably has the complete document on the photo. She wrote: "The 'adults' in the picture are Robert Gilpin (coach), maybe teacher Laura May Wooten (she is probably the one holding the trophy), and maybe Lucille Baker Gilpin (coaches wife)--Mom and Dad identified the people via phone and the picture they have only includes the team members. So there you have it. Until someone tells us differently, we'll go with this. This story was posted on 2010-08-03 12:42:42
