Obituary: Alice Coomer, 89, Columbia, KY

Mrs. Coomer was a member of a large. highly regarded Adair County family. She leaves 37 direct living descendants. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was longtime employee of the Adair County School District

Alice Coomer age 89 years of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at 6:20pmCT at Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center in Columbia, KY

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQuearyFuneral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY Bro. Harold Coomer and Bro. Steve Pescosolido the officiating clergy. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the funeral home.



Alice Brown Coomer, 89, Adair Co., KY (1921-2010)

She was the daughter of the late Benjiman Harrison and Mackie D. Coomer Brown. She was born Saturday, June 8, 1921 and died Monday, July 26, 2010 in Columbia, Adair Co., KY at the age of 89 years, 1 months, and 8 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband Buell Coomer.

She is survived by the following:
  • Four sons: B. Douglas Coomer and wife Andi of Lakemont, GA; James R. Coomer and wife Pat of Cecilia, KY, Russell Coomer and wife Bobbie ofColumbia, KY and Rolan Coomer and wife Terri of Somerset, KY

  • Three daughters: Linda Shoemaker and husband Jerry of Bowling Green, KY; Kathy Cox and husband Brad of Columbia, KY and Sheila Keltner and husband Kenneth of Alvaton, KY

  • One brother: Calvin Brown of Columbia, KYFour Sisters: Claudia Coomer, Lenora Parrish, Audra Campbell and Faye Bault ofColumbia, KY

  • Thirteen grandchildren

  • Seventeen great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson Ryan Shoemaker; one sister Cymbylene Gowen;and three brothers, Duleth Brown, Herbert Brown and Roscoe Brown.

Mrs. Coomer was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and retired schoolcook for the Adair County Board of Education.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
