Virginia Boston McCandless, 86, Metcalfe Co., KY, native

She was a member of a prominent North Metcalfe County family. She taught school in Jefferson Co., KY for many years. She was an avid, prize winning quilter. She was a 63 year resident of 2nd Street in Louisville, and was active in neighborhood associations in the city

Virginia Boston McCandless, 86, passed away July 26,2010.

The Funeral service will be Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 1pmCT, at the Butler Funeral Home, 201 East ST, Edmonton KY. with burial in Boston Cemetery, Sulphur Well, KY. Visitation from 10am-1pmCT Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the funeral home.



A native of Metcalfe Co. KY. and a resident of Old Louisville for 66 years. She was retired from Jefferson County Public Schools after 33 years of service at Male High School in Louisville, KY.

Gin was an avid quilter and had many blue ribbon quilts in the State Fair. She loved to knit baby blankets. She was a long time member of Old Louisville Neighborhood Association and Second Street Neighborhood Association (SSNA) and lived 63 years on 2nd Street in Louisville.

Gin was preceded in death by her husband Brown McCandless, Jr. and, sisters Marine VanZant, Ruth Gravens, and Ruby Reece, and her mother and father, Paul and Bertha Boston.

She is survived by the following:
  • Daughters: Linda Howard, Ginny Keen and Becky Mccandless.

  • Her grandchildren: Lisa Williams (Ashley), Lindsay Coggin (Johnny), Leland Howard, Jeremy(Amy), Andy (Jj), Jon (Angela) and Autumn Keen

  • Great-grandchildren: Savannah, Lily, Katie Ava And Summer Keen, Lucy and Jude Coggin.

  • Sister: Alyne Jolly (Jady)

  • Great friends: Marcelle Wheatley, Jan Vogel, Gwyn Ellis, Elaine Clark, Vernon Cook and John Pierce
Butler Funeral Home, Edmonton, KY, in charge of arrangements.
