Yulanda Bradshaw is active in many service projects

Somerset Community College Physical Therapist Assistant Student Yulanda Bradshaw received Minority Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence from The American Physical Therapy Association

Alexandria, VA - Physical therapist assistant student and member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Yulanda Bradshaw, Columbia, KY. was awarded APTA's Minority Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence during PT 2010: APTA's Annual Conference and Exposition, held in Boston, June 16-19, 2010

Bradshaw holds B.A. from Lindsey Wilson

Bradshaw received her B.A. in business administration from Lindsey Wilson College in 1991 and has since graduated from Somerset Community College (SCC) with an Associate Degree in Applied Science Physical Therapist Assistant.



In addition to APTA's Minority Scholarship Award, she also received the John T. Smith scholarship in 2009.

Has passion for helping children with disabillities

Bradshaw has spent a significant amount of her time as a volunteer and has a passion for helping children with disabilities. She worked as a mentor for the Shriners' "No Limits Sports Clinic" in 2009.

She was a buddy to children with disabilities and helped them compete in an Olympic-style setup by encouraging them and teaching them that they are not confined by their disability.

Served as Gift of Love coordinator

She also served as a Gift of Love coordinator and was responsible for providing underprivileged families with a "Gift of Love" during the holidays. Bradshaw has served as a volunteer for the Kentucky Special Olympics since1990. She works to provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities opportunities to compete athletically with those of equal disabilities. And, lastly, she has worked in 'God's Food Pantry' to help provide food for those in need in Pulaski County.

Is member of Adair Community Choir

Serves as member of Selective Service Board

Bradshaw also serves as a member of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Selective Service Board and was recently awarded the Outstanding PTSO Member Award, the Outstanding Mentor Award, and the Community Service Award.

She was also asked to speak at the Governor's Minority Scholarship Preparation Program in June. Finally, she was recently elected to the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association's All American Academic Team.

APTA's Minority Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence, which was created in 1988, is awarded by the Physical Therapy Fund and APTA.

The award acknowledges and rewards academic excellence, demonstrated concerns for minority issues, and the potential for superior professional achievements. Recipients are selected by the Board of Directors of the Physical Therapy Fund upon the recommendation of the APTA Committee on Cultural Competence.
