Driver airlifted to UL following collision on bypass

Passengers in other vehicle treated and released at Westlake Cumberland Hospital

A 32-year old Science Hill woman was extricated from her vehicle and treated at Westlake Regional Hospital before being airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital following a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Greensburg ST and the Columbia Western Bypass, in the very early afternoon today.

Passengers in the second vehicle were treated and released at Westlake Regional Hospital.



At approximately 12:54pmCT, Monday, July 19, 2010, officers from the Columbia Police Department responded to the accident at the junction of KY 439 and KY 55/Columbia Western Bypass.

Rachel Johnson, 32 of Science Hill was operating a 2006 Nissan Altima and was making a left turn onto bypass from KY 439 / Greensburg ST, and pulled into the path of a 2007 GMC Arcadia which was traveling northbound on KY 55 Bypass.

The GMC vehicle was driven by Elizabeth Miller, 39 of Campbellsville, KY.

Passengers in the Miller vehicle were 42 year old Kurt Miller, 12 year olds Kody and Konnor Miller and 7 year old Hunter Miller, all of Campbellsville, KY.Johnson had to be extricated from vehicle and transported to Westlake Hospital by Adair EMS and then airlifted to University of Louisville.
BR>Passengers in Miller's vehicle were treated and released from Westlake Hospital.

Seat belts were in use in both vehicle.

Cell Phone usage believed to be a factor in the collision.

The collision was investigated by Columbia Police Department Officer Brad Scholl, assisted by Chief Mark Harris, Officer Tracy McCarol, and Code Enforcement Officer Bill Bailey.

Adair County EMS, Adair County Fire Department, Adair County Search and Rescue also responded to the incident.

The Driver of the black 2006 Nissan Altima, Rachel Johnson, 32, Science Hill, KY, was treated at Westlake Regional Hospital then airlifted to University Hospital following a collision with the white GMC Acadia, right, driven by Elizabeth Miller, Campbellsville, KY. Passengers in the Acadia were treated and released at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY. The collision occured shortly after noon, today, Monday, July 19, 2010. The accident was investigated by officers of the Columbia Police Department, who were assisted at the scene by the Adair County Fire Department, the Adair County Emergency Medical Service, and the Adair County Search and Rescue Team.
