Future CU wrestler wins British title; named to Team Engl By Chris Megginson News from Campbellsville University Athletics Campbellsville University wrestling has another national champion, only this time in Great Britain. Brett Hawthorn, an incoming freshman at CU this fall, won the British Closed Championship in Glasgow, Scotland June 26, making him one of Great Britain's newest senior national champion. Hawthorn, coached by his father and former three-time world medalist Jimmy Hawthorn, earns a spot on Team England for the Commonwealth Games to be held October 3-14 in New Delhi, India. "For Brett to be a freshman in college and already have this kind of success against the senior level athletes is really impressive. I'm looking forward to having Brett's work ethic and passion for the sport in our program," CU head coach Franky James said. "I hope to see Brett compete at the 2012 Olympics." After all, the Olympics is his next major international goal, and his dad thinks he's on pace to attend the games in London as he prepares for a junior year of college. "His transition from junior wrestler to senior is going very well. He is only 19 years old and still a junior until he turns 21 but he is competing in most senior events," Jimmy told the Telegraph & Argus.
