Cane Valley Days: Taylors Farm Store, Downtown Cane Valley, KY The place has always been an agricultural center, but today, it stands as much more: A picturesque part of Cane Valley's history, and a social center, as well. It still offers the time traveller a refreshing ice cold pop and old timey, friendly service by the proprietor, Mr. Max Taylor Click on headline for story and photo(s) By Old Coddger The Taylor's Farm Store building in Downtown Cane Valley, KY, has had a farm related business for many, many years. I am 63 and it was there before I was born. If my memory is correct, from what I remember being told, it was built by a Mr. Faulkner in the late 30's to early 40's. He was a relative of the Campbellsville Faulkners. The building was used as tobacco sales location in Mr. Faulkner's day. Mr Faulkner would penhook the tobacco and then haul to Lebanon for resale. At one time it was a feed mill for several years. It was a good place to play Rook on a cold day. Today it is owned by Max Taylor and he is almost retired. He sells a few pieces of used tack and a few other items. The soft drinks are always cold. At one time it was a tobacco penhook location, and therein lies this tale:There is a story of a gentleman from out in the neighborhood a ways bringing his tobacco in and selling it to Mr Faulkner. They started unloading the tobacco and the farmer had his "hog box" turned upside down under the tobacco in a team wagon, taking it to the Tin Shop, just up the street, for repair. Mr Faulkner had paid for about 50% more tobacco than was there. If you have ever been around a penhooker you do not feel sorry for him here, but applaud the farmer. He really did nothing wrong as normally a penhooker will run up and tell you what he will give for your product. The story goes he offered and the farmer sold.
