Poetry: Thoughts in Yesterdays Scattered Showers

This is my first submission of poetry as a newbie here in Kentucky," writes Glora Anderson. "Monday's scattered showers helped put this together," writes Glora Anderson.

Thoughts in Yesterday's Scattered Showers
Poetry submission by Glora Anderson
I was sitting there expecting just a bit of quiet.
A sunny day, but a bit cooler than most recent days.
I brought along my red coffee stir stick,
intending to practice calling turkeys.

The many butterflies were busily gathering nectar from all the flowers
and the bees were heavy into the clover in the yard.
A few clouds were moving in.
Scattered rain was forecast.
I noticed the birds chorus had increased.
Not from my attempts at calling turkeys,
no, they were announcing the coming rain.
The sound of raindrops came through the airand the birdsong quieted.

Many frogs took up the cantata with their off-note voices
and rejoiced that the rain was here.
Butterflies scampered between drops,
looking for a dry place to rest until the rain stopped.

Some of the bees moved to dry areas, too,
but many kept up their quest for nectar.

Thunder arrived slowly and built up to a crescendo,
bringing with it heavier rain and a good breeze.
The sounds of the thunder echoed again
and again down the valley.

The frogs ceased their rejoicing,
all should know now that the rain is truly here.
I feel the breeze increase
and cause the rain to blow onto the porch some.

Oops, bare feet start getting wet
and I think it is time to move inside.
Thankful to God for the gift of this afternoon.
