When will safe new Hwy 55 South RD bridge be built?

About: Ann announces bridge construction Sulphur Creek RD closing
To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

When are we going to get a new and wider bridge on KY 55 South RD? Just before you get to the Zion Community and KY 92?

We have some large trucks that cross that bridge with the rock quarry down the road and large cattle haulers and stock trailers.

We were told several years ago that we were going to get a new bridge and it hasn't happened. I understand about the money being short and that you are replacing the ones that were washed out in the flood, but that doesn't keep me from wondering "When Our Bridge?."

When they do put in a new bridge how will traffic be routed to get to Columbia???

Inquiring minds want to know?

s/M.E. Lewis

Thanks for your inquiry. The Sulphur Creek Bridge is an Adair County Fiscal Court project, and answers are available quickly by calling the CJE's office at (270) 384-4703. The bridge on KY 55 S. RD is a Kentucky State Highway Department project, handled out of the District 8 Kentucky Department of Highways office in Somerset. As information is learned or received, we'll try to keep you posted. -EW

It's a State Highway Department project, one Gov. Beshear's local contact man Richard L. Walker is urging be built. It is a top priority of Third District Magistrate Sammy Baker and Adair County Judge Ann Melton. The bridge is so narrow that passing vehicles have, on occasion, knoked off the other's side mirrors. This photo was taken 16 months ago, and posted February 4, 2009. It was listed as the top road and bridge priority in a request for Federal Stimulus money by Adair County Judge Ann Melton and other community leaders in an article on all priorities for Federal Stimulus funding at that time.
