Campbellsville to host Air National Guard Band July 5, 2010 Event is part of the City of Campbellsville's July 4th celebration By Joan McKinney News from Campbellsville University CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes will perform at Campbellsville University Monday, July 5, 2010 at 7pmET/6pmCT at Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins AV, Campbellsville, KY as a part of the City of Campbellsville's July 4th celebration. Campbellsville University is sponsoring the free performance, in conjunction with the Central Kentucky News-Journal and Commonwealth Broadcasting. The Concert Band is the largest ensemble of the Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes. Under the leadership of First Lieutenant Haley Armstrong, the band performs a diverse repertoire that includes original military band compositions, orchestral transcriptions, popular Broadway and show tunes, marches and patriotic selections. The group supports the morale, welfare and recreational aspects of military life; performs for military and civilian dignitaries; and appears at civic events in support of the Air Combat Command's community relations programs. Air National Guard Bands are the active duty band's counterparts in the Air National Guard. There are 11 Guard bands located throughout the Continental United States. They support the global Air Force and Air National Guard missions by providing musical products and services to the Air National Guard, the United States Air Force, and the community. Armstrong is commander of ANG Band of the Great Lakes Armstrong is the commander of the Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes. She earned her commission from the Academy of Military Science and took command of the band in April 2007. Prior to her command, she was enlisted as a trumpet player with the Air National Guard Band of the Central States and the Air National Guard Band of the Northwest. A native of Sonora, CA., Armstrong earned a bachelor's degree in music education and trumpet performance from Eastern Washington University. After graduation she taught middle school and high school band in Medical Lake School District in Washington. She holds a master's degree in music education from the Indiana University Jacob's School of Music, Bloomington, IN. She is pursuing a doctorate in conducting at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. As a guest conductor, Armstrong has worked for the Air Force Band of Flight, the Air Force Band of Mid-America and the United States Air Force Band of Washington D.C. leading them in concerts and ceremonies including a performance for President George W. Bush. Her military awards and decorations include Honor Graduate from the Academy of Military Science, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal and the Washington Achievement Medal. Lt. Boothe is deputy commander and associate conductor Born and raised in Salisbury, Md., Lieutenant Daniel W. Boothe is deputy commander and associate conductor of the United States Air Force Band of Flight located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. Boothe is a magna cum laude graduate of Radford University where he received a bachelor of music degree in composition, and was among 20 top scholars nationally recognized by USA-TODAY in 2005. He earned a master of music degree in conducting from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Boothe was selected for the annual "David Effron Conducting Fellowship" at the prestigious Chautauqua Institute Music School Festival and served as Conductor for the American Music Stage in the Washington D.C. area, both while completing his graduate degree. He then went on to serve as a visiting artist and member of the adjunct music faculty at the University of Virginia's College at Wise, where he expanded the percussion program and was featured as a guest lecturer. Prior to joining the Air Force, Boothe was director of percussion at Radford University, Va. Boothe has also served as a frequent adjudicator for the WGI World Percussion Championships. He has studied conducting with Frederick Fennell, Timothy Muffitt, David Wiley, and Anthony Maiello; and composition with Mark Camphouse and Beth Weimen. Boothe enlisted in the United States Air Force and was commissioned through Officer Training School, Maxwell, AL, on October 27, 2009. Campbellsville University is a Kentucky-based Christian university with over 3,000 students offering 44 undergraduate programs, 16 master's degrees and four postgraduate areas.
