Patty Bunch: Pet can provide grief therapy

Hopes Tedder bloodline kin will rescue another little "Sugar"

About: In Memory of Sugar best friend for 16 years

By Patty Bunch

I was touched by Beverly Merritt's story of the death of her pet. I have known Beverly for all our lives; we grew up in the same area and are of the same bloodline of Tedders.

Beverly and her family have been through their share of tragic events just as many families.

The worst one of my memory was when her baby sister was killed in a car accident shortly before she was to be married. She was buried in her wedding dress.

I have no doubt losing her pet, her friend, and loyal companion, has been another heartbreak Beverly will handle.

When my dear niece was killed, I grieved endlessly for days; I spent too much time alone until I decided to get a pet for myself.

I had never had a house dog and never ever thought I would live with a dog in my house, but grief will make one do things one would not otherwise do.

My little miniature poodle, Pedro, is my constant companion. Watching him grow and caring for him gives me another avenue of thought.

He became so ill, himself, with an acute illness, I too, thought I was going to have to say goodbye to him. Thank the Lord, and the intensive care of my vet, Pedro recovered.

I trust Beverly will find it in her heart to rescue another little Sugar. There are so many precious animals who need her when she heals enough to have another pet.
