Review: Chateau LaRoach presented by ACHS

Cast and crew, listed below, presented entertaining play, as evidenced by the warm response and cheers of the May 14, 2010, audience

By Mrs. Joanne Held

On May 14, 2010 ACHS presented Chateau LaRoach by Lauren Wilson. The story of a small motel that became infested with cockroaches, much to the dismay of the owners, Francois (Jeremy Norris) and Mimi LaRoach (Kacie Wolfe).

They decide to hire an exterminator, Roskel Goomey (Derrick Overstreet). However, his cure just makes things worse as the cockroaches grow into human size. To make matters worse, the Health Inspector is supposed to be arriving incognito to inspect the motel. Any one of the "guests" could be the inspector!

Francois believes that the guest the bicyclist Nigel Havic (Bradley Byrd) is the inspector. Unfortunately, Nigel ingests some of the insecticides accidentally at dinner which alters his entire personality.

The reaction of the various guests to the enlarged cockroach (Dallas Fair) added to the hilarity! Lola St. Britannia (Ruth Perkins), the manager of the child star, Ronnie Zircon (David Elliott) is totally out of her element of the city.

Of course, Ronnie thinks these real big bugs are great. The honeymooners, Josie (Jamie Tucker) and Jip (Dallas Fair) Nackerly try to leave but find their car has been sabotaged.

Scarily, all of the cars have been trashed, including Enira DeCan(Emily Corbin) the widow who travels with her psychic, Madame Zillinda (Holly Black); Hanula Bing (Danielle Symmes), the travel writer; and Liza Bethingel, the nun (Leah Brown) who was really an undercover reporter.

The employees at the motel try their best to keep the guests satisfied, but to no avail, especially since they are as afraid of the enlarged cockroach as the guests. Robin Wren (Destiny Mardis), the bellhop; Paolo Quinti (Jacob Brehm) the chef; Elsie Welks (Melanie Alexander) the maid, Gina Retch (Audra Turner) the waitress; and Happy Lamperson (Jordan Coomer) all try to do their best, but it is not long before they with the guests are hiding out and trying to escape.

Naturally, the play ends on a positive note, as the roach befriends the child star and they all travel to Santa Monica to be with Ronnie.

The cast and crew did a wonderful job and the audience responded with enthusiastic applause!
