Robertson Cemetery on Plum Point RD, gets new look Picturesque Egypt community cemetery on Plum Point Road is now more inviting. Robertsons, Baults, Cooleys, Dillinghams, Rices, Russells, Smith and Sturgeons among prominent family names found there Click on headline for story plus photo By Richard Robertson Last Fall, Jerry Robertson contributed to the revitalization of the old Robertson Cemetery on Plum Point RD. in the Egypt community of Adair County, with a very generous donation. Jerry designed and commissioned the building of the sign in the photo. He then installed the sign with the help of his brother, Howard Robertson. The cemetery was established in 1866 by their great-great grandfather, Matthew Robertson, a son of Mathew Sr. a Revolutionary War Veteran, who is buried at Humble, Russell Co., KY. Mathew, along with two successive generations of Robertson's have been buried on Plum Point. Many present residents of Adair County are descendants of those interred in the Robertson Cemetery, because many extensions of the Robertson family have chosen the cemetery as a resting place: Bault, Cooley, Dillingham, Rice, Russell, Smiths and Sturgeons, among others. Generally, the graveyard has had few burials since the 1950's with the last burial being in the early 90's. Because of it's picturesque setting and the recent improvement, it is expected that the Robertson cemetery may see new arrivals in the future. Jerry is a life-long resident of Adair county and presently residing near his roots in Egypt Community. His concerns of respectful acknowledgment of community and family history extends to the present and future welfare of Columbia and Adair County.
