Watershed Arts Alliance to offer sketching class at Somerset, KY By David Cazalet, Jr. Watershed Arts Alliance and Somerset Artist Janie Hail will offer a sketching class on Saturday, May 22, from 10am to 2:30pmET/9am to 1:30CT at the new home of Watershed Arts Alliance at 501 Ogden ST, Somerset, KY Janie Hail, watercolorist, is a life-long native of Somerset, Kentucky. After completing a thirty-year career as an English teacher, she turned to another love, painting. She has painted and sketched nearly all her life and, in the past ten years, has attended several watercolor workshops across the U.S. and in Ireland. The class will include lunch and all necessary supplies. The cost of the class will be $25 for non-members of Watershed and $20 for Watershed members. To register for the class call (606) 678-2068 or send a check to 501 Ogden St., Somerset, KY, 42501. Hail is a juried member of Sheltowee Artisans. In 2002 she was chosen as the Master Musician Festival's Artist of the Year. Her works have been exhibited both singly and as a member of the Escape Artists, a group of 9 painters, in many venues including The Center in Somerset, Promenade Gallery in Berea, the Old Crowe Inn in Danville and the Arboretum Gallery in Lexington. Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital chose three of her paintings for their lobby in 2007. She enjoys the special challenges of private commission work, as well as speaking to groups and guiding them, in a relaxed atmosphere, in finding their own talents in sketching and artistic expression. In the "Vagabond Sketching" workshop for Watershed Arts Alliance, she will be guiding her students in sketching techniques which could be used to "capture the moment" while traveling. Watershed Arts Alliance is a local arts organization which supports local performers and artists. The Watershed Gallery is located at 501 Ogden St. Watershed Arts Alliance is a not-for-profit local organization whose purpose is to promote the arts and local artists.
