Cookies, simple act of kindness recalled 28 years later About: A Kindred Spirit: Remembering Mom on Mothers Day by Teresa Kindred, a tribute to her mother, Shirley Layne Demumbrum Bell By Cythia A. Meyer Although I had never met Mrs. Bell in person, I can say she made the best Chocolate Chip Cookies EVER! It was almost 28 yrs ago, just prior to moving to Kentucky, we traveled the area looking at prospective places to rent or buy. Stopping for a second in Edmonton with hounds on the back of the truck, a tall blonde kid hollered out his truck window. "Those coonhounds or foxhounds? Stop by Bell's Sales and Service up the road, and we'll go hunting sometime"We did stop up at Bell's Sales and Service to find the tall blonde kid was in fact Teresa's baby brother Robert, we hunted several times with Robert during our tour of South Central Kentucky. One night in particular, Robert handed us a baggie of homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies. Those cookies were melt in your mouth, out of this world, and as close to Heaven without leaving this world as you will ever find.Never before nor since have I had Chocolate Chip Cookies as good as the ones that Mrs. Bell used to make. I had mentioned it once to Teresa, she just shrugged her shoulders, said her mom was a fantastic cook, and for her, those cookies she sent to us were probably just her average run of the mill cookies. As you can see the cookies or the simple act of kindness have not been forgotten in some 28 years! -Cynthia Meyer This story was posted on 2010-05-09 19:12:47
