BAVFD will use grant for new equipment $135,963 will be used to buy mobile communication , fire ground operations, and technical equipment, not for day to day operations. By Brandon Harvey News from Breeding Fire Department Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department receives grant for fire / rescue equipment. The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department recently received Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) for $135,963.00. The Grant is distributed through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). According to BAVFD Chief Terry Harvey the funding will allow our department to purchase much needed mobile communication equipment, fire ground operations equipment and technical rescue equipment. The BAVFD is only one of less than 100 fire departments which are going to be awarded for equipment in the State of Kentucky. We are very excited that we received this grant. This grant will allow our department to expand our current response capabilities to the citizens of Adair County. "I am very proud of our department," Chief Harvey said. "Without our volunteers and the community support, we would not have a fire department at all. I want to remind the community that the grant only allows our department to purchase new equipment, etc. We cannot use the grant money for everyday expenses."The grant total $135,963.00 was announced April 28, 2010 by U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield. Our department applied for the AFG back in April of this year.
