By Paul Saeli

As I'm sure you're aware that, Thursday, April 29, 2010, is the is the 138th anniversary of the James Gang holdup and the murder of the bank's cashier RAC Martin in 1872. I'm sending along an image of Martin from my collection. This is actually a picture of the photo that I believe used to be in the bank to memorialize Martin.

Does anyone know what happened to the original?

I want to relate to you is how upset I've been as a historian about the murder of Martin!

Damn, the robbers destroyed two lives: Robert Alexander Martin, who they murdered, but also his wife Hester.

Can you or any of you readers imagine what the impact would be on your life if your spouse was murdered in a crime?

I certainly can't.

Hester Martin, Robert's wife, never remarried and would remain childless and died alone in a Louisville nursing home.I have no sympathy for the players in this fatal holdup and truly wish the bandits, Frank, Jesse, Cole Younger and others had been caught and arraigned for this crime. -Paul Saeli
