CU Baseball relief pitcher is MSC Player of the Week

News from Campbellsville University Sports InformationCampbellsville University relief pitcher Spencer Frantz was named the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference office announced Monday, April 26, 2010.

The Rouge River, OR, senior picked up a pair of wins in relief last week while allowing just one run over his 10-1/3 innings last week.

Frantz completed the week with a 0.87 earned run average and allowed seven hits.



His first win came in a 4-3 extra innings Senior Day victory over Indiana University Southeast at home. He shutout IUS through four innings and allowed just one hit. He closed the week with another four-inning relief effort to beat Georgetown College, 5-3. He allowed no runs and three hits. He won the game by turning a 1-6-3 double play in the seventh inning to seal Campbellsville's fourth MSC Regular Season Championship in six years.

Frantz now has a 2.78 ERA in 22-2/3 innings this year with a 2-1 record and one save.

West Virginia University Tech's Ryan Kessinger was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week. The Covington, WV, native hit .647 (11-for-17) and scored four runs on the week. He hit safely in all five games played, including a 4-for-4 performance in an 11-9 win over Georgetown College. He also went 7-for-11 in a three-game weekend series with Lindsey Wilson College.

Campbellsville (35-18) will host Pikeville College in the first round of the MSC Tournament, April 30-May 1, at Tiger Field, 204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY
