First Chance Store was in house structure About: History of Chance KY Post Office recorded in Adair Co News Click on headline for story plus photo of First Chance Store By Janice Newton Reed I have a picture of the house that was also the "First" Chance Post Office. Henry Clay and Bettie Bardin were my grandparents also. The store and post offfice were in one front room of their house, which was built by Henry Clay Bardin. The family lived in the rest of the house when the store and Post Office were in one room. My mother recalled how, as a very small child, her mother would get the keys to the store and open it up to a customer when someone would stop and wanted to shop. A photo accompanies this letter. It was taken about 1950 maybe 1952 by my father, James A. Newton. I know about the time because the skinny kid on the porch is me. You would go into the front door and a door directly on the right off the hall was the Store and Post Office. This story was posted on 2010-04-26 22:08:47
