Adair Co. treated to gathering of musical excellence Performances at Columbia Christian Church by Lindsey Wilson Choir, the Louisville Orchestra, and Lindsey Wilson Concert Band beyond critic's wildest dreams By Charles Miller The big city had nothing to offer on Sunday evening which would equal what we Adair County residents had for free. This writer had the opportunity to attend the Lindsey Wilson College Choir / Louisville Orchestra / Lindsey Wilson College Concert Band presentation which was presented at the Columbia Christian Church. What an exciting event. The program was titled "A Grand Musical Academy," which is, by definition, A Gathering of musical excellence. The program started with "Praise The Lord Our God, Forever" which was sung by the college chior and accompanied by the Louisville Orchestra String Ensemble. The clarity and precision of the participants was nothing short of amazing. This was followed by "Kyrie" from Franz Shubert's Mass in G. The Latin was perfect, as was the solo portion sung by Gloria San Miguel. Tim Allen conducts magnificent Mozart piece Tim Allen then took the baton and conducted a magnificent Mozart piece, "Piano Concerto No. 21, K.467" played by the incomparable Dr. Robert Reynolds. It is truly amazing that he could play with such dexterity and precision with only two hands. The concerto was accompanied by the combined talents of The Louisville Orchestra group and by a portion of the Lindsey Wilson Concert Band. The quality of these two groups and the blend of instrumental voices was beyond one's wildest dreams. > There were three short selections from "Requiem" by Gabriel Faure expertly sung by the LWC Chior, and with solos by Chris Richardson and Gloria San Miguel. One of the highlights of this writer's evening was the Rondo portion of "Horn Concerto No. 4, K.495" by Mozart with Page Coomer on the french horn. This was truly an amazing presentation of a very difficult piece. Page and the strings from LSO performed flawlessly and with balance and confidence. Dr Reynolds favored the audience with two more pieces with the LSO strings and really added a "WOW" factor with the Allegro Vivace portion of Chopin's "Piano Concerto in F-minor, Op.21" to conclude the evening's presentation. Dr. Chafin, Dr. Reynolds, Director Tim Allen, and Concert Master Jack Griffin deserve rousing ovations This community needs to send a rousing round of congratulations to Dr. Gerald Chafin, Dr. Robert Reynolds, Tim Allen, and Jack Griffin and the Louisville Symphony Orchestra for the time and talent that they bring to this area. This was the eleventh year that the Lindsey Wilson Concert Chior has had a spring concert. This writer has only been in Adair county for the last few years, but is looking forward to any future presentations which might be comming in the future. -Charles Miller This story was posted on 2010-04-26 14:02:26
