ACHS students install solar panels in project

Solar energy installation at Adair County High School is under the supervision of LWC Energy and Technology Director Heather Spoon, Columbia, KY

By Duane Bonifer
News from Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY - While Adair County High School teachers, staff and students were enjoying spring break earlier this month, four individuals used the week to install the parts for a green-energy experiment on the high school's roof.

Lindsey Wilson College Energy and Technology Career Academy Director Heather Spoon supervised a solar array installation project on the high school's roof. Spoon also oversaw the installation of a similar project at Russell County High School.

The project, which was made possible by support from several local businesses, will allow Adair County and Russell County high school students enrolled in Energy and Technology Career Academy to study solar energy. Spoon teaches students enrolled in the program.

The ETCA is funded by a grant from Siemens Corp., the Appalachian Regional Commission and Lindsey Wilson College. The ETCA is the only green enery career-academy program offered at a rural U.S. school. To monitor how much energy is being harnessed by the panels, go to: SolrenView at Adair County High
