Kroger Bakery will create 33 new jobs, invest more than $10.6 million

Economic Development: New Jobs are located 78 miles west of Downtown Columbia, KY; a commute of about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

BOWLING GREEN, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear today joined company and community leaders in Bowling Green to announce the expansion of Country Oven Bakery, 2840 Pioneer DR, Bowling Green, KY. The company, which is owned by The Kroger Co., will add 33 new jobs at the Bowling Green facility and invest more than $10.6 million in the Commonwealth.




"The Bowling Green, South Central Kentucky community is experiencing a bevy of new and expanding industry growth and the expansion of Country Oven Bakery is yet another prime example of this activity," said Gov. Beshear. "The creation of 33 new jobs and more than $10.6 million investment is a significant economic boost for the region. We are proud to partner with The Kroger Co. to make this investment possible."

The Bowling Green bakery makes frozen dough products, breads and iced cakes for Kroger. The expansion will add 50,000 square-feet to the company's existing 177,000 square-foot facility to accommodate a second cake line. Country Oven Bakery currently employs 450 people with a total annual payroll of $22.3 million. The new jobs will have an average annual wage of nearly $50,000 including benefits.

"On behalf of the 18,000 associates Kroger employs throughout Kentucky in 108 stores and three manufacturing plants, we thank the Bowling Green community and the Commonwealth for their support," said Roger Bullion, general manager of Country Oven Bakery. "We are Kentucky Proud and excited to continue to grow in this great Commonwealth."The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved tax incentives for Kroger up to $825,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment Program. The incentive can be earned over a 10-year period through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments.
