Celebration starts with art exhibition

The celebration will kick off with a special art exhibition with artwork and crafts created by members and friends of the church in honor of the Sesquicentennial. The theme of the exhibit will be "What the church means to me." The exhibit will be located in the church's fellowship hall. Following the artists' reception, Colin Andrews, Interim Director of Organ and Sacred Music Studies at East Carolina University, will present an organ recital in the church's sanctuary. Andrews has toured the world as a solo recitalist. Born in England, he was a prizewinner at the Dublin International Organ Competitions. He is an associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London. A London review of one performance read, "Colin Andrews showed distinction as a Bach player."

"I have always believed that the essence of being a preacher was to be a good storyteller with an important message to convey," Killinger said. "I still regard that as my job."

"Maybe the most special thing about John Killinger is the way he says what's really on his mind, whatever other people may think about him for saying it," said Allen Brimer, the pastor of First Presbyterian Church.

Sesquicentennial concludes on April 18, 2010
