Alex Jane Clemmons is a MSC Player of the Week ]From Chris Megginson News from Campbellsville University Sports Information LOUISVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University junior Alex Jane Clemmons and Georgetown College senior Brittany Gunther are the Mid-South Conference Softball Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The conferences weekly award is the first of the season for both Clemmons and Gunther. Clemmons earned MSC Player of the Week honors after batting .667 (12-of-18) with two home runs and 13 runs batted in for the Lady Tigers. The Smiths Grove, KY, native, hit safely in each of Campbellsvilles six games, including a three-hit, four RBI performance in the Lady Tigers 8-7 win over University of Rio Grande in the series finale. Clemmons added a pair of doubles, six runs and four stolen bases to her award-winning week. This season, Clemmons is batting .341 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. She leads the conference in RBIs and is tied for fourth in home runs. Campbellsville is 20-12 overall this season and leads the Mid-South Conference with a 10-2 conference record. Gunther did not allow a run in three wins last week to earn MSC Pitcher of the Week. The Louisville native hurled 19 scoreless innings while picking up wins over University of the Cumberlands, Midway College and St. Catharine College. Gunther allowed just six hits over her 19 innings while striking out 24 batters. She recorded back-to-back one-hitters against Cumberlands and Midway. She lowered her earned run average on the season to 1.87, fourth best in the MSC. Georgetown is 14-14 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-South. This story was posted on 2010-03-30 05:01:36
