LWC Golf Women capture Northern Kentucky Spring Fling PERRY PARK, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team erased a three-stroke first-round deficit and jumped over a pair of NCAA Division II teams to win the Northern Kentucky University Spring Fling at Perry Park Golf Resort. The Blue Raiders posted a team-total 302 in the final round to shoot a two-day total of 613 (311-302) to win in its first tournament of the spring season. The 21-team field completed the second round this morning after suspending play on Saturday due to darkness. In an effort to beat heavy rains forecasted for today's second round, the field started round two on Saturday, completing as many as 30 holes on the first day. Lindsey Wilson, along with the remainder of the field, finished the final six holes this morning in the rain to win its fifth tournament of the season. The Blue Raiders won four of five tournaments in the fall. Host Northern Kentucky finished second with a team-total of 621 (308-313) and NCAA DII No. 6-ranked University of Indianapolis (Ind.) finished third with a 625 (309-316). Lindsey Wilson senior Krista Burton and junior Chelsey Key earned a spot on the all-tournament team with their top-five finishes. Key finished tied for third with a two-day total of 151 (74-77) while Burton tied for fifth with a 152 (80-72) over the 5,819-yard, par 72 resort course. Lindsey Wilson senior Jessica Smith tied for 10th in the 130-woman field with a two-day total of 154 (78-76). Sophomore Paola Gonzales shot a 156 (79-77) to finish tied for 14th and freshman Kelsey Joslyn finished tied for 48th with a 166 (80-86) to round out the Blue Raider team. Playing as individuals, senior Cheslee Stone finished tied for 52nd with a 167 (80-87) and freshman Jennifer MacKinnon finished tied for 68th with a 171 (85-86). Lindsey Wilson Women's Golf, returns to action on April 5-6, 2010 as they travel to the Bluegrass Spring Classic hosted by Georgetown (KY) College at Cherry Blossom Golf Club, 150 Clubhouse DR, Georgetown, KY.
