CU signs two to men's cross country/track programs Tim Perdue II and Andrew Simmons will compete for Campbellsville University <Click on headline for story plus photo By Chris Megginson News from Campbellsville University Sports Information CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University has announced the addition of distance runner Andrew Simmons of Daviess County High School in Owensboro, KY, and jumper Tim Perdue of Lyon County, KY. Simmons is the first men's distance runner signed for 2010 by new cross country head coach Hilary Cebulko. He finished 27th overall at the 2009 Kentucky State Cross Country Meet. His best time in a 5K is 16:36. In track, his personal records are 10:07 for the 2-mile and 4:45 in the mile. "I'm very excited to sign Andrew, and I believe he is going to fit right in with the team. He loves to run and is enthusiastic about running. From talking with his parents and his coach, he works very hard and wants to do well in life. I am thrilled to have Andrew as a part of this team for the fall next year, and I am excited that he was my first recruit signing for the men's team. He is a good start to a great team next year and only good things will come in the future," Cebulko said. Perdue won the 2010 Mason Dixon Indoor Championship for long jump and finished fourth in the 2009 Class 1A Outdoor Track and Field Championships for long jump and was second in triple jump. He won two state titles while in eighth grade. He was the Kentucky middle school indoor long jump champion and the triple jump outdoor state champion. In 2008, Perdue was fourth in the Kentucky state meet for triple jump and fifth in long jump. Gaining one spot last year, he hopes to have a shot at a state title this spring. He was also an Academic All-State selection in 2007 and 2008. This story was posted on 2010-03-25 16:15:42
