Friends of Green River Lake organization becomes a reality

Following a lengthy discussion about potential projects to benefit Green River Lake, the environment surrounding the lake, Green River, and local communities, a group of 16 people voted unanimously to form the Friends of Green River Lake at the meeting held Thursday night, March 18, 2010, at the Green River Lake Visitor's Center.

The group proceeded with electing the following Officers:
  • President: Scott Dillery
  • Vice President: Melody Boward
  • Secretary: Monica Thomas
  • Treasurer: Shawn Canada
"Friends of GRL" is looking forward to upcoming projects such as the Kid's Fishing Day on June 5, 2010; Lakeshore Clean-up, and researching and developing trails and historical areas around Green River Lake.



A total of 25 people to date have attended the two meetings and are willing to participate. Representation is from both Adair and Taylor County Governments, educators, tourism groups, Lindsey Wilson College, local business owners, local organizations and citizens interested in preserving and promoting our communities.

The following meeting dates have been established:

  • The Officers and Advisory Committee will meet April 1, 2010, at 6pmCT/7pmET at the Green River Corp of Engineers Visitors Center to establish the By-Laws and Board of Directors for the group.
  • The regular monthly meeting for Friend's of Green River Lake will meet on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 7pmET/6pmCT at the Green River Corp of Engineers Visitors Center, 544 Lake RD, Campbellsville, KY. Anyone interested in becoming a "Friend" is encouraged to attend this monthly meeting.
