I believe the Tarter community was located in Adair County near present-day Hwy 76, not far removed from the Adair-Russell County line.

The news from Tarter, KY, March 21, 1900


Mrs. Nancy Webb who has been confined to her bed for some time is no better.

T.H. Tarter who has been attending school at Dunnville this winter has returned home. [Thomas Henderson Tarter was about 19 years old; he passed in 1933.]

Mr. George Brown has rented a farm from W.G. White and taken possession.

Mr. John Montgomery, of Columbia, was here Thursday on business.

Mr. R.A. Yates the photographer was here Wednesday.

D.F. White bought of Steve Calhoun a fine young mare for $60.

J.O. White who has been attending school at Russell Springs has returned home.

W.R. Cravens sold a span of mules for $150.00 last week.

William Shepherd lost a fine mare a few weeks ago, valued at $75.00.

W.D. Tarter our merchant will erect a large store house in the near future. We do not know its dimensions but it will be a large house.

M.G. Shepherd sold a mare for $50.

Joe Abrell sold a cow and calf to S.S. Williams for $30.

Born, to the wife of Levy Morgan, a boy.

Mr. Jackson Barrett, who got severely burned a few days ago is slowly recovering.
