Adair County first in State to get Bridge in 2010 program Kentucky Rural Highway Commissioner B.D. Wilson confirms award Information from Lisa Lee, Administrative Assistant Office of Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton Adair County will be the first county in the state to receive money for a bridge under a Kentucky Highway Department program to fund the building of one bridge replacement project in each of the Commonwealth's 120 counties this year. Adair County's application was started immediately after Commissioner Wilson's announcement of the program, some two months ago. Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton has been notified by Kentucky Rural Highway Commissioner B.D. Wilson that Adair County has been awarded $86,500 to rebuild a bridge over Sulphur Creek, 8.824 miles south of Liberty RD/KY 206, on Sulphur Creek Road (CR 1016). Adair County's application was started immediately after Commissioner Wilson's announcement of the program, some two months ago. "We were the first county with a completed application," CJE Ann Melton said. "Commissioner Wilson told me that when we got word. And he said that it was fitting for Adair County to be the first, since we are first in the alphabet." The Adair County Road Department, Jobe Darnell, Superintendent, should be able to start construction the first of April, 2010. The bridge will be constructed to meet or exceed an H-20 loading.
