Lexington, Ky., (February 26, 2010) - JJ Hunter of Russell County, KY. is one of 30 community leaders who have been awarded fellowships by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture to take part in the fourth class of the intensive Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches Institute.

Hunter is a tremendous asset to the Institute and to Russell County. He has served the region as a Park Ranger Sergeant for the KY State Park System. Hunter is currently pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors.

Hunter has received a fellowship valued at $18,000 that covers the costs of participation in eight seminars on rural entrepreneurship and a week-long national study tour exploring rural communities that are thriving as a result of their entrepreneurial efforts.

Hunter has currently completed three of the eight seminars on rural entrepreneurship. In February and March Hunter will complete his training to become a certified entrepreneurial coach and can begin coaching entrepreneurs in the community.

As a Fellow in the Institute, Hunter has made a commitment to promote entrepreneurship throughout Russell County and to serve as a local resource for entrepreneurs wishing to start or expand a business.

The Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches Institute was formed in response to the transitions in rural communities. "If current self-employment trends continue, one rural worker will be self-employed for every three salaried workers by the year 2015," said Ron Hustedde, Director of the Institute. Fellows will explore ways to help tobacco-dependent counties throughout South Central Kentucky through their involvement in the Institute.

The Institute invests in grass-roots leaders and provides them with skills, tools, and the vision to build a solid network of entrepreneurial leaders, advocates and coaches. We believe our volunteer leaders can open up their communities to fresh ideas and regional cooperation for entrepreneurship. The Institute strives to strengthen entrepreneurship in 22 tobacco-dependent counties throughout South Central Kentucky.

The Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches Institute is funded by the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board and administered University of Kentucky College of Agriculture's Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
