Ann Curtis aerial photo: Early 60s, Larry Walker says

About: Memorable Old Columbia, KY: Can you date this aerial photo?
E-bay purchase photo submitted by Ann Heskamp Curtis

Louis DeRosett was taking pictures;
Dr. H.C. Randall was flying the plane when Ann Curtis' aerial photo was taken.

By Larry Walker

I would guess the time would be in the early 60's.

It was after the warehouse had been added to the old Massey house by Shirley Glasgow and James Woody, but prior to the Fire Department building on Merchant Street.

You can see Charlie Wethington's wholesale house, the old Goff boarding house behind Grissom Funeral Home, the car dealership is still on the corner of Merchant & Campbellsville Street with cars across the street behind the Kelsay house.

It was after Houchens had been constructed along with the additions for Callison's Cleaners and the Wishy Washy.

Louis Merkley and Morris Epperson had their new cars displayed on the lot next to Wishy Washy.

The houses behind Willard Cheatham's Gulf Service Station (201 Burkesville ST, where the Chamber Building is today) were still there.

Further up Burkesville Street, the Masonic Lodge had not been built nor the extension of Frazier Avenue from Burkesville Street to Gordon's Court.

Back to Campbellsville Street, Miss Blair's house is still on the corner of Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson Street, and there is her parrott sitting in its cage in the front yard!

James Lewis Moore's house appears to be under construction at the bottom of Lindsey Hill. That's where Chief Harris lives today.

There at the Shell station across from Grissom Funeral Home. It looks like Huston Rogers is pumping gas for David Heskamp who has a small bottle of Coke in his hand!

Raymond Lacy had not started filling in on (300 block of) Campbellsville Street below Columbia Locker and behind Adair Co. News Publisher Edward Hamlett's house on Maple Street, where Bean Harvey's mother lives today..

If you look close you might see Ralph or Ed Waggener delivering the Courier-Journal in the Isetta with the door in the front! Dr. H.C. Randall was probably flying his plane for Louis DeRossett to take this photo for the Adair County News!
