Terry Partin: Back Yard Bird Count is easy, entertaining

Encourages all Adair Countians to participate

By Terry Partin

The promise of snow and the advancing cold front has resulted in a tremendous feeding frenzy for birds of all types. The weather change could not have come at a better time for those participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count. Early in the four day counting period, which ends Monday evening Columbia Kentucky is leading the way in the number of reports filed.

It is wonderful to see our community leading the way for much larger municipalities such as Atlanta and New York city.

While participating to aid in the collection of information to help scientists analyse the impact of changes in habitat, weather and disease on our feathered friends, I discovered that bird watching or counting is great entertainment.

I encourage all Adair Countians to take 15 minutes and observe the various birds that we so often overlook as we go about our daily activities. Then complete the easy self explanatory entry sheet that can be accessed from the top of page one of Columbia Magazine.-Terry Partin
